Buta Don Buta Don is a quick and delicious Japanese dish consisting of rice, topped with pork, and glazed with a savoury sauce. This Donburi dish is originated in Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. You can add some vegetables such as onions and carrot, but 'Buta Don' most commonly consists of a bowl of rice topped with just pork slices. Buta means "pig" or "pork", and don is short for donburi, the Japanese word for "bowl".

To begin with this particular recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can have buta don using 12 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

The ingredients needed to make Buta Don:
  1. Take Cooked Rice 3 to 4 servings
  2. Make ready Skinless Pork Belly *thinly sliced
  3. Prepare Oil
  4. Get Salt
  5. Take Spring Onion *finely chopped
  6. Take <Sauce Ingredients>
  7. Take Sugar
  8. Take Soy Sauce
  9. Make ready Mirin
  10. Prepare Sake
  11. Make ready Garlic *grated
  12. Take small piece Ginger *grated

You can add some vegetables such as onions and carrot, but 'Buta Don' most commonly consists of a bowl of rice topped with just pork slices. Donburi essentially means a 'rice bowl dish'. Popular dons include Katsu Don (fried chicken/pork bowl), Gyu Don (beef bowl), Ten Don (tempura bowl), Soboro Don (minced chicken bowl) and the list goes on. My favourite is this Buta Don, served with sliced onions, egg and spring onions.

Instructions to make Buta Don:
  1. Place all ingredients for the sauce in a small bowl and mix well.
  2. Heat Oil in a large frying pan over medium to high heat, cook Pork slices, adding a pinch of Salt, until nicely brown. It doesn’t take long at all.
  3. Add the Sauce mixture and cook until the sauce thickens.
  4. Half fill a bowl with cooked rice and cover it with the Pork. Sprinkle some chopped Spring Onion and serve. Some Chili, Shichimi (Japanese Chili Spices) or Toasted Sasem Seeds are also nice for topping.

My favourite is this Buta Don, served with sliced onions, egg and spring onions. It's super easy to cook and warms my tummy any day! Put the pork, ginger and green onions in boiling water. Buta Don is a Japanese dish consisting of a bowl of rice topped with pork simmered in a mildly sweet sauce.
