Chikuwa (竹輪) is a Japanese jelly-like food product made from ingredients such as fish surimi, salt, sugar, starch, monosodium glutamate and egg white. After mixing them well, they are wrapped around a bamboo or metal stick and steamed or broiled. The word chikuwa ("bamboo ring") comes from the shape when it is sliced. Chikuwa • Note: Chikuwa is a tube-shape Japanese fishcake.

  5. Make ready 50 g Chikuwa *sliced
  6. Make ready 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  7. Prepare White Pepper
  8. Make ready 1/4 teaspoon Dashi Powder
  9. Get 2 servings Cooked Rice *about 360g, warmed
  10. Take 1 tablespoon Soy Sauce

The fresh Chikuwa really captures the essence of the savory fish flavor, pure and simple! Chikuwa character design is based from Takehana Note's line of Original Characters. Alongside Chikuwa he also drawn Edamame, her sister with contrast personality. Unfortunately Edamame wasn't considered for Note's VTuber project.

Instructions to make Chikuwa & Cabbage Fried Rice:
  1. Add Oil to the heated frying pan or wok over medium high heat, cook Eggs, then add Cabbage, Spring Onion and Chikuwa. Season with Salt, White Pepper and Dashi Powder.
  2. Then add warmed Cooked Rice, and stir-fry for a few minutes. Remove from the heat, sprinkle Soy Sauce over, and mix to combine.

Alongside Chikuwa he also drawn Edamame, her sister with contrast personality. Unfortunately Edamame wasn't considered for Note's VTuber project. Chikuwa is fishcake shaped into sticks or tubes that are long and hollow inside, and it is the most often used meat used in Isobeage. Other seafood like fish and shrimp or even chicken are also suitable for the dish. This is very flexible side dish that you can adjust to your taste and what you have available.
